CSIDNet Training Session: Systems Thinking and Systems Dynamics for CSID Research
Led by Sebastian Bernal-Garcia, this 2-hour session introduces systems thinking and system dynamics to build process-based (mechanistic) models to study climate-sensitive infectious diseases. Participants will explore feedback loops, delays, and accumulations through a case study. The interactive portion includes building a causal loop diagram and a simple simulation model in an online free tool.
This session is designed to be accessible to all participants. No prior programming skills or technical modelling experience are required. Participants only need a basic mathematical intuition, such as recognising positive and negative relationships, and basic digital tool-use skills, as the session will be hands-on using a free online tool.
Sebastian is a PhD Candidate and HDR Teaching Fellow at Griffith University in Australia, specialising in system dynamics simulation models. He is currently exploring how serious games can enhance the understanding and adoption of climate-sensitive, process-based models of infectious diseases.
Participants who attend the full 2-hour session will receive a certificate of participation.
